Description
During the Boreal forest’s explosion of growth in May, the forest air is filled with resinous vapour from budding trees. Flash fires start easily and a big fire tanker is nice to have. The Douglas DC-6 was Queen of the piston liners during the 1950’s and continues to serve today as a formidable forest fire attack plane. Carrying 11,400 litres of chemical retardant in a belly tank, it has 12 separate “doors” that can be opened in many different variations to suit the amount of control needed. On the fire that I’ve imagined in this painting, it is dropping all of its load in a long string drop of 12 doors in sequence, that will help control the flank of the fire.
